Nestled prominently in the heart of Nairobi's bustling Central Business District (CBD) stands the modern 27-storey Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Pension Towers, a stunning architectural masterpiece that officially opened its doors in May 2022.
What sets this building apart is its distinctive feature: two striking glass towers gracefully enveloping the central edifice.
Contrary to initial speculations, the CBK Pension Towers were not crafted by foreign hands; rather, they were meticulously designed and developed by a team of talented Kenyan professionals.
This remarkable feat was accomplished by Arprim Consultants, a renowned architectural firm registered in Kenya.
At the helm of Arprim Consultants are principal architects Joseph K. Maina and Jared Momanyi, who, along with their dedicated associates Moses Okemwa and Alfred Mumo, orchestrated the creation of this architectural marvel.
In addition to the CBK Towers, Arprim Consultants has left their indelible mark on various notable projects, including the Kenya School of Monetary Studies hostels, COMESA offices, Kenya Women Finance Trust banking hall, Faulu Kenya branches across the country, the Kenya Wildlife Service cottage, numerous apartments, and guest houses, including the prestigious Muthaiga Heights in Nairobi.
The building's distinctive design garnered international acclaim, earning it recognition in China as one of Africa's standout architectural wonders.
During the grand inauguration ceremony, former President Uhuru Kenyatta commended the architects for their role in bringing this spectacular structure to life.
He also extended his gratitude to the CBK Pension Scheme for entrusting Kenyan talent with such a monumental project.
President Kenyatta remarked, "This building stands as a testament to Kenya's creativity and innovation. It has even earned its place among the most cutting-edge buildings in Africa, as recognized in China."
He further praised the CBK Pension Fund for embracing local expertise, emphasizing that the architects, quantity surveyors, and engineers entrusted with the towers were all young and talented Kenyans.
Explaining the symbolism behind the building's unique design, Dominic Mwenja, Chairman of the CBK Pension Fund Board of Trustees, emphasized how it represents the care and consideration the country provides to its retired citizens.
He stated, "This structure serves as a testament to our commitment to our retirees, who have devoted their best years to our nation. It is our responsibility to ensure their comfort and well-being in their golden years."
The CBK Pension Towers, with their innovative design and significance, have firmly established themselves as an integral part of Nairobi's urban landscape, serving as a beacon of Kenyan talent and creativity.
