In November 2021, David Njuguna, a businessman based in Kiambu, gained attention for his acquisition of an aircraft for Opposition Chief Raila Odinga, a prominent candidate in the August 2022 general election.

The purchase took place during an auction organized by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) in 2021, where 73 abandoned planes from various airports in the country were offered for sale.

The auction featured a diverse range of aircraft, including cargo planes and jets, with the starting bid for some as low as 700 US dollars, equivalent to approximately Ksh70,000 at the time.

Njuguna revealed that he had obtained three planes from the auction, with two designated for personal and business use, and the third intended as a donation to Odinga.

The businessman emphasized that providing Odinga with the aircraft would enhance mobility as the former Prime Minister traveled across the country for campaign activities leading up to the 2022 general election.

The Kenya Airports Authority had previously conducted auctions, with similar planes finding new owners across the nation.

In a prior auction, Emmanuel Ng'etich, another entrepreneur, acquired an old KQ plane and ingeniously transformed it into a high-end restaurant named Club 034, located in Kitengela, Kajiado County.

This unique dining establishment has become one of Kitengela's primary attractions, drawing patrons seeking an exceptional and enjoyable experience.
