Being in the military or working as a police officer is among the most challenging jobs due to the possibility of being sent to dangerous locations to accomplish different missions.

When your name is called in the disciplined forces, you are expected to step up and accept the role given, unlike other jobs where one can rationalize out of an assignment.

Some of these tasks carry a high degree of risk, and your ability to return to your family's house is not guaranteed.

Former General Service Unit (GSU) officer and current journalist Ibrahim Kimani Muhoro talked about his time in the military and what drove him to leave and pursue journalism.

In a previous interview, Muhoro mentioned that he served as a GSU officer for three years before coming to the conclusion that enough was enough.

The renowned journalist mentioned that his close friends' deaths during some of their assignments and his frustrations led to his decision to leave the military.

He revealed that during security operations where they were deployed, he lost 25 close friends.

Muhoro singled out a situation in which he was ill and had trouble obtaining time off to receive treatment, noting that this led to him resigning from serving the country as a police officer.

“I became sick and was denied access to health care and upon forcing and pushing, I was given four days to travel home to Mpeketoni, Lamu County for treatment…That's when I wrote a resignation letter,” he recalled.

Muhoro claimed that his career as a journalist was his true calling. He decided to try his luck in the police force, though, since he was unable to land a job in the media.

The K24 journalist claimed that because he had just graduated from college, the police recruitment drive occurred at a time when he needed to find work to support himself.

The digital journalist however resigned in 2016 after what he calls unbearable challenges in the military before landing a job at K24 in 2020 where he now works in the digital department.
