Lupita Nyong'o gave everyone the gift of a very chic introduction to her partner, Selema Masekela, over the holidays.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actress didn't say much; all she did was post a video of the two of them participating in "The King's Affirmation" challenge while wearing a succession of coordinated, eye-catching outfits.
She added the caption, "We simply click! @selema #thisismylove #nuffsaid," to the extremely stylish video.
The video was also published by Masekela, who pinned it to his Facebook with the words, "Hearts are synched. My whole and actual love @lupitanyongo."
Lupita and Selema joined her family for skiing at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, USA. She introduced 51-year-old Selema to her family.
Here is everything you need to know about Selema Masekela, despite the fact that they have only provided that little insight into their relationship.
Masekela, a prominent South African jazz artist, was born on August 28, 1971. His father is music legend Hugh Masekela. Hugh was one of the most well-known musicians to emigrate from South Africa during the Apartheid era. When he was 21 years old, he departed and spent the next 30 years in exile.
Masekela began his career working for Transworld Magazine, according to IMDB (a skateboarding glossy now out of publication). Later, he hosted programs including The Daily 10 on E! and Ballbreakers on the Game Show Network. Additionally, he has guest starred on programs including Lingo and Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tours and worked as an NBC journalist for the summer Olympics. X Games on ESPN are presently hosted by Masekela.
Masekela is a member of the band Alekesam, whose songs have appeared on the television shows Entourage on HBO and House of Lies on Showtime.
And it appears that others besides the executives at cable TV are endorsing his music. Junior, Nyong'o's younger brother, recently used the Alekesam song "Old Love" in an Instagram video reel.
Although they did not specify when they began dating, Masekela acknowledged in a 2016 tweet that he was smitten with the actress.
The TV personality was reportedly seated behind Nyong'o on a trip out of Los Angeles, and when he couldn't think of the perfect way to start a conversation with her, he decided to turn to Twitter for suggestions.
He tweeted: "Hypothetically speaking of course…Let's say you're seated behind Lupita Nyong'o on an airplane, what would be your opening line".
We may never know if he adopted the advice that was given, but given that they are now together, it is obvious that he eventually came up with a line that was effective.
Masekela shares the same multi-hyphenation as Lupita. The 51-year-old is a TV broadcaster, singer, and the owner of his own surfing company, Alekesam. Additionally, the business is rooted in his African heritage.
"Before I got on TV, I was working for surfing brands. As a young person, I aspired to get into the surf, snowboard and skateboard industry," In 2022, Masekela told W Magazine, "I was always curious about what a brand would look like in the surfing space that was specifically African. I started surfing in South Africa in the 1990s, when my father was able to go back after his 30 years of exile, and I very much fell in love with it."
In 2018, he teamed up with the African-based company Mami Wata before going solo.
