Kenyan creatives and musicians have been urged to infuse social principles into their art and refrain from perpetuating what he described as 'evil-related' content.

Dr Ezekiel Mutua, CEO of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya, condemned musicians who produce songs promoting immorality within society.

Speaking at AIC Kyemutheke Church in Mavoko constituency, Ezekiel Mutua voiced his disappointment with ways some musicians are using to seek attention or gain popularity on the internet, terming it as 'clout chasing.'

In this speech, he specifically denounced a particular song titled 'Yesu Ninyandue' by a Kenyan artist, urging elders and church leaders in the artist's hometown to offer counseling, as it is tarnishing the reputation of music in Kenya.

“If we do not tame the clout chasing on social media, then we will destroy the foundation of our nation. A nation is only strong when the foundation of its values is strong,” he said.

Further, criticized the Government's move to pay artists through E-citizen, a system he described as not suitable for running the art sector in the country.

This comes amid the Government working on a plan to have all music copyrights and royalties paid through the eCitizen platform.
