Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati was appointed as the IEBC chairperson in January 2017 after being nominated by former president Uhuru Kenyatta in December of the previous year.

However, Chebukati is known to many as a soft-spoken chair of arguably the most powerful commission in the country but a lot remains unknown to the public about him.

Here are ten things you didn’t know about Wafula Chebukati;

1.      He is aged 61, born in 1961 in Bungoma county

2.      He is married to the love of her life Mary Chebukati and they tied the knot in 1990.

3.      They are blessed with three children, two boys named Emmanuel and Jonathan and a girl named Rachel.

4.      Emmanuel chebukati is the co-founder and certified cloud security engineer at Rwandan-based hepta analytics while Rachell Chebukati is an advocate of the high court and a certified mediator

5.      Chebukati holds a bachelor of law degree from the University of Nairobi and is also a licensed lawyer.

6.      He also holds a master’s degree in business administration which he achieved from Jomo Kenyatta university of science and technology (Jkuat).

7.      Wafula Chebukati was a politician belonging to Raila Odinga’s orange democratic movement

8.      Chebukati vied for the sabot constituency parliamentary seat in the year 2007 which he lost

9.      Chebukati is an alumnus of st peters mumias, bokoli secondary school and finally Lenana high school.

10.  Golf is one of Chebukati’s favourite sports and is a member of the Kenya golfing society.

11.  Chebukati has overseen three elections; the 2017 Kenyan general election, October 2017 Kenyan presidential election and the 2022 Kenyan general election.
