Kenya’s first hijab-wearing English news anchor Najma Ismail resigns at Standard Media Group after nine years of service.

In a tweet seen by Look Up Digital on 8th March 2023, Najma narrated her experience in the media industry thanking the Mombasa Road-based media house for mentoring her.

The renowned Prime time anchor joined Standard Media Group in 2014 after working at The Lions Palace, which hosts Classic 105 and Kiss 100.

Najma, however, did not publicize her next move.

The Standard Media Group-owned station has seen massive exits in recent days sources opining the massive exodus to the rising of the digital space which has left most journalists’ positions redundant.

Some notable names that have parted ways with the media house include. Fredrick Odeo Sirari, Frank Otieno, Ted Malanda, Dr Mercy Korir, news anchor Sharon Momanyi among others.

Most of the journalists have opted to raid the Public relations field and top Government positions.

One of the many accolades that Najim Ismail earned through her service in Standard Media Group is being ranked among Kenya’s Top 30 Muslim achievers.

At the station, the TV queen recalled her role as head of the Gender Desk, in which she was able to empower women thriving in different sectors.

Netizens on Twitter congratulated the renowned journalist, wishing her success in her future endeavours.
