Radio Africa Group has shut down Kiss TV a popular Television station that is a sister station to the renowned Classic 105, Kiss FM, and Radio Jambo.

According to an internal memo seen by Look Up Digital, the commercial hip-hop and dance music television has shut down due to financial constraints showing the door to at least 30 journalists.

“As you are aware our TV department has been unable to generate revenue despite the efforts involved to turn the station around” the memo sent out by the Chief Operation Officer read in part.

The Chief Operations Officer thanked the Kiss TV Staff for making efforts to ensure the station stands on its feet.

This comes after the station shut off the news department in 2013 switching to a fully commercial-entertainment channel whose target audience was the youth.

Kiss TV was the youngest broadcaster to offer news in Kenya at the time with the media group struggling to make it successful following the closure of Classic TV, which was also owned by Radio Africa.

The closure comes at a time when digital journalism is taking the journalism space.

Digital journalism represents a revolution in how news is consumed by society.

Online sources are able to provide quick, efficient, and accurate reporting of breaking news in a matter of seconds, providing society with a synopsis of events as they occur rendering traditional media redundant and hence being out of business.
