Presenter Kamene Goro of Kiss 100 revealed on Tuesday that she and her fiancé were conned eighteen thousand Kenyan shillings. The two were looking for a PlayStation in an online store. She took it on social media calling the act an order of the day and a rite of passage.
“Wasee jana tulioshwa a strong 18 thousand bob, I’ve never felt like that. I feel like someone kicked me in the stomach. If you haven’t gone through this rite of passage, you’ve not really lived in this Kanairo or in this 254. It was such a deal. Delivery within 1 hour 45 minutes. They asked us to pay a deposit of 18K. After hours, we called the number and it was off. After 45 minutes, the phone went on again. We called back and he couldn’t pick up. We called with another number, and they picked up and lied about confirming. I told him not to hang up, but he hangs up and blocks me even on Instagram.” Presenter Kamene said.
This incident comes just a few days after another celebrity; Njugush narrated his experience with Nairobi cons as well. Njugush on the other hand was in his car heading home when a lady came disguised as someone who needs help from him to feed her children. Filled with sympathy the comedian went on to open the car door and that’s when all hell broke loose. As soon as he opened the door, two other guys came in and jumped in the car forcing him to hand over everything he had including the money in his M-Pesa.
Kamene waited for at least two hours for the delivery, she grew impatient and decided to call the online store. Followed by constant calls to the store, she eventually got blocked from contacting the online store. Cases of people getting scammed by online stores have been on a rise.
