Years after his dismissal at Homeboyz Radio, an umbrella of Radio Africa Group, Shaffie landed a new job labeled Head of Events and Branding at Nairobi County. The media personality’s role is to oversee events planning in the county.
On March 27, 2021, the former radio host, along with his co-host Neville Musya and a well-known DJ by the moniker of DJ Joe Mfalme, was fired by Radio Africa-owned Homeboyz radio due to comments they made about gender-based violence.
Shaffie Weru then decided to take a break from the screens and after a 2-year break, the renowned off-mic radio presenter hyped up his new show which premiered on Monday 30th January.
With his position, he discussed his roles which necessitate managing all governor’s indoor and outdoor events to make sure they feel, look, and sound spectacular. He also added more information on various ongoing initiatives, such as the Kanairo Anthem Challenge and the Battle of the Chorus.
In a recent interview with Look Up Tv Digital, Shaffie Weru spoke about the vision he has for the future of the County’s events.
“Nairobi is the New York or Paris of our country, and we offer the best experience and push boundaries that have never been pushed before to give the best results in service delivery for our number one client, the people of kanairo,” he said.
The media personality went on to discuss the significant transition from radio host to events manager and the difficulties in the new position. “Radio was a one-man army job,” he said. “But here, I have a huge team in communications and protocol, and it’s not a one-man show” he stated.
Furthermore, he added that, “It’s not about my vision but the vision of my governor as it is enshrined in his manifesto that includes a City of Dignity and making Nairobi work!”
The face at Governor Johnson Sakaja’s office when asked how he stays on top of a market that is changing quickly responded that he does his research, attends festivals and events around the world, collaborates with up-and-coming event companies, and offers free consultations to other local event companies.
“Adapt or die is my life mission,” he concluded.
