It now looks like someone really wants Kenya Pipeline Managing director Macharia Irungu out of office as the board let him run down his contract and then later assumed that he did not want to continue with his tenure because he apparently did not express interest to extend his contract.

The board now claims that the contract which Macharia Irungu signed in 2019 has expired and effectively terminated under the Kenyan law meaning that Kenya Pipeline as it currently stands does not have a managing director.

Mr Irungu took over at KPC  in January 2020 after the contract of former acting MD Mr.Hudson Adambi ran out after serving in acting capacity since 2018 after the arrest of Mr.Joe Sang and other top officials on allegations of corruption at the state agency.

A statement released by KPC stated, ‘’ There was no expression of interest on your part to have the contract extended or renewed despite the invitation by the board to do so via the letter dated December, 9,2022 written to you by the Board Chairperson. Your term lapsed on January 1,2023 and you are no longer an employee of Kenya pipeline Limited .‘’

This latest letter by the newly appointed board chairperson Faith Boinett contradicts investigations by Daily Nation that established  that Mr. Irungu’s contract had been extended in 2021 by the then chairperson Rita Okuthe.

In the letter to the current chairperson,Rita Okuthe indicated that Dr. Irungu’s tenure had been adjusted to five years subject to his performance and age of retirement requirements which effectively legally puts Dr. Irungu in charge.
