Kenya's construction sector is expected to reach a market value of $6.65 billion in 2023, growing by 7.1% between now to 2027. Big 5 Construct Kenya, which takes place from 8-10 November at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, is positioned to further bolster the industry's robust growth outlook.

The sixth edition of the event brings together contractors, consultants, developers and project owners, engineers, architects and interior designers as well as manufacturers and distributors to build the future of construction in Kenya.

“The construction sector in Kenya continues to grow driven by factors such as urbanization, population growth and the need for improved infrastructure development,” said Ben Greenish, Senior Vice President – Construction at dmg events. “Big 5 Construct Kenya provides visitors the opportunity to source high quality products, services and technologies spanning the entire construction value chain and supporting the growth prospects. This event also plays a pivotal role in helping exhibitors launch new products, generate sales, build brand awareness, interact with distributors & suppliers and gain competitive insight in the market.”

Kenya’s Vision 2030 serves as the nation's enduring roadmap for development, driven by a shared desire to achieve a more prosperous society by the year 2030. It will also be a core focus throughout the event highlighting the importance of reaching this shared goal and how the construction industry can assist. The country’s major construction projects include five mega dams created in Kenya, and the two-lane Nairobi-Mombasa Highway being converted into a dual carriageway, along with the LAPSSET Corridor Program, which is Eastern Africa’s largest and most ambitious infrastructure project.

Over 8,000 buyers and decision-makers from Kenya, associated with these ongoing and upcoming projects, meet with 150 exhibitors at Big 5 Construct Kenya to buy products, explore business opportunities and network with the industry. The event covers eight product sectors including building interiors & finishes, concrete, building materials & tools, building services, HVAC R, solar & urban design landscape, MEP services and digital construction.

New countries exhibiting and attending the show are Latvia, Slovenia, Djibouti, Romania, Poland, Lebanon and the USA, joining Kenya and returning participants including Saudi Arabia, Finland, India, Australia, South Africa, South Korea, Tunisia, the UK, China, Italy, Türkiye, Greece, Germany, Egypt, the UAE and more.

Among local exhibitors, Kenya-based Chryso Eastern Africa showcases the latest in cement and concrete, while Antarc brings quality office furniture and flooring solutions to the event.

Framecad from South Africa, a new exhibitor this year, showcases cold-formed steel equipment and software, while Superb Flooring Systems’ machinery brings top quality concrete floor preparation and polished concrete applications.

Among Indian exhibitors, Kalpana International showcases quality building fittings and hardware. Kataline presents its end-to-end solutions for road marking equipment, products and services. The RIME Group showcases the latest in freezing and refrigeration, while Kirby Building Systems shares its structural steel and pre-engineered building systems.

Big 5 Construct Kenya continues to promote knowledge transfer through 20 free-to-attend CPD-accredited Industry Talks, which provide professionals a chance to collect CPD points, an industry-wide requirement to build on practical knowledge applied to the construction profession. “The Industry Talks will run under four themes: technology, project management, architecture & design and sustainability. Sustainability is essential in the Kenyan construction landscape to futureproof the industry as well as surrounding buildings and structures to leave a positive legacy for the next generation,” added Greenish.

As part of the Industry Talks sessions, some of the confirmed speakers include Azmeena Bhanji, Chairperson of the Kenya Green Building Society, who will share the stage with Richard Hough, CEO of Africa Logistics Properties (ALP) to discuss the green building movement in Africa. Meanwhile Mayank Bhargava, Managing Director of AAD Tech will discuss energy efficiency and power savings technology in HVAC in the Nigerian construction sector.

In another session, Nasra Nanda, CEO & ESG Lead at the Kenya Green Building Society will highlight how the country is navigating its sustainability agenda. “As the Kenya Green Building Society, we are excited to participate and speak at Big 5 Construct Kenya, where we join key private sector leaders, government and regional champions of industry, in discussing key developments shaping up the construction industry. Being at the forefront of advocating for sustainable development practices, we promote environmentally responsible construction in Kenya.”

Big 5 Construct Kenya 2023 is supported by Town and County Planners Association of Kenya, Chartered Institute of Building, Project Management Institute Kenya, Kenya Association of Building and Civil Engineering Contractors, Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Kenya and Kenya Green Building Society, among others.

“We look forward to building the bridges that connect the local construction value chain with international stakeholders, to create opportunities, showcase products, services, innovative solutions and excellence to advance Kenya's construction industry,” Greenish concludes.
