Things might take a turn around a few days after President William Ruto put the construction of the 160 billion shillings 233 kilometers Rironi Mau summit road on hold. This is after the French government which is the main financier of the project initiated advanced talks with the government

French ambassador to Kenya Arnaud Suquet paid a courtesy call to deputy president Rigathi Gacahgua on Monday, January 16th, 2021. He said that the project remains a crucial pillar of the current and future engagements between the two countries.

On his part deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua has said the government was open to having more discussions around the project to get it back on track.

“We remain open to having further discussions with the developer, which we hope will result in giving Kenyan taxpayers the best value for their money,” The DP said.

On January 10th 2021, president William Ruto put on hold on what is termed as former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s most expensive road which was initially meant to kick start in September 2021 has been awaiting president Ruto's approval.

It is believed the Kenya kwanza government was hesitant about the project since it entails tolling which might affect president William Ruto’s rift valley backyard.

The road was to be constructed by a consortium of three French construction firms and was being funded by the African development bank (AFDB ) and the world bank and was seen as being a gateway to rift valley and western Kenya.

The meeting between DP Gachagua and the French ambassador has revealed that Kenya will host a delegation of French business persons and investors in a bid to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries.
