Equity Bank announced on Monday, January 23, that it will support 1,000 academically gifted but economically underprivileged pupils through their respective high schools.

Speaking at the Commissioning event, Equity Group Foundation Executive Chairman Dr James Mwangi congratulated the selected students on receiving the prestigious scholarships.

“We remain optimistic that at the end of the four-year period, they will come back as winners. Our hope is that this program, as it also offers mentorship and coaching will equip them with the right tools to be transformational leaders in society,” Dr Mwangi said.

Dr. Mwangi emphasized that the Wings to Fly program sought to enhance Kenyans' quality of life by empowering Kenya's bright minds.

Equity bank is also in partnership with the Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank to support needy but bright students with a fully funded secondary education through the Elimu Scholarship program.

“The Ministry of Education with support from the World Bank and in partnership with Equity is rolling out scholarships to support needy but bright students with a fully funded secondary education through the Elimu Scholarship program,” a statement read.

Among those who benefited from the programme is Miriam Masinde from Trans Nzoia County. Miriam will be joining Moi Kapsowar Girls Secondary school in Elgeyo-Marakwet County.

The scholars will join the Equity Leaders Program once they have graduated from high school and have been admitted to colleges.
