To fund development initiatives, the county assembly has authorized an Sh1 billion supplemental budget for the fiscal year 2022–2023.
The county government of Machakos's budget is currently Sh12,610,752,230, according to the Budget and Appropriations Committee report that was presented by its chairman Dominic Ndambuki (Kathiani Central MCA) and approved by the House.
Ward representatives approved a budget of Sh4.1 billion for the Department of Health and Emergency Services, an increase of Sh2.7 billion over the department's budget of Sh3.7 billion from the previous year in order to meet the increased demand for healthcare services.
An analysis of the proposed changes reveals a revision of the approved annual budget from Sh11,596,315,959 to Sh12,610,752,230. The recurrent expenditure will increase by Sh731,928,932 while development expenditure will increase by Sh282,507,339.
The report states that conditional grants, which were previously worth Sh610,440,182 but are now worth Sh891,892,118, would be used for recurring and development expenses.
