The accident occurred on a public road within the resort, which during the World Cup is renting rooms beginning at around £265 per night. It is a remarkable building. Spectacular in design, and enormous in scale. The Sealine resort has been subject to scrutiny over conditions for the low-paid migrant workforce and lack of details on deaths.
The ongoing World cup in Qatar has led to the deaths of more than six thousand five hundred migrant workers. Qatar won the right to host the world cup ten years ago. The spotlight had been on Qatar ahead of the tournament due to the alleged treatment of migrant workers employed in the gulf state.
The incident is being investigated by the Qatari authorities.“If the investigation concludes that safety protocols were not followed, the company will be subject to legal action and severe financial penalties”. A Qatari government official said.
