Sasha Mutai who was the former Vice - Chairman of the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU), seems to take over the leadership of the Kenya Rugby Union as he will be the only candidate to face the Chairmanship ballot following the withdrawal of his only competitor Joe Onsando.
The former Kenya Harlequins Chairperson, Onsande has stepped down for what he termed as a watchful contemplation. His withdrawal from the race has come days after he launched his manifesto.
“After a watchful consultation with the stakeholders, affiliates and rugby associates I have arrived at a decision of withdrawal from the race due to the divisive upcoming elections.” Termed Joe Onsande.
In his statement, Onsando has appreciated the rugby associations and affiliates as he shared his experience during the campaign period. During his campaign Onsando advocated for unity and formation of one board for the benefit of the Rugby Union.
“In my campaign I advocated for the union to have one board. I outreached many rugby associates and affiliates to extend the message of unity” Says Onsando.
In addition, Osando says the message of his withdrawal will be of great commitment, unity and will create good governance and management to encourage the returns investors in the game.
“This message helps in creating unity, ensuring there is a high level of commitment and creates a room for good governance that fascinates sponsors and investors in the game.” Onsande added.
The former Kenya Harlequins chairman, thanked everyone for taking into consideration his leadership.
