In a week that has been busy both politically and in the world of sports, we look at some of the events that have made headlines this week locally and internationally.
Ruto and Friends
After suffering heavy criticism from Kenyans and the opposition for allegedly spending Ksh. 200M on the hustler jet to go for his state visit in the US, President Ruto faced Kenyans at the Prayer Breakfast stating that some friends gave him the jet at only Ksh. 10M.
Kenyans were not satisfied questioning which friends were these which forced State House Spokesperson Hussein to come out again and say who the ‘friends’ were; the UAE government.
Gachagua and Holding Hands
Deputy President Rigathi was in his good-boy mood during the Prayer Breakfast deciding to forget all his woes, cracking a joke about how the President had pressured Kenyan men to hold their wives' hands but that changed quickly once the State visit was over.
UDA Wrangles
UDA SG Cleophas Malala jetted back from China and issued a statement warning the ilk of Sudi, Wamuchomba & Murkomen for creating division in the party but he was met with quick-fire responses.
Sudi called him an elevated MCA, Wamuchomba welcomed him for a battle while Nyeri governor dismissed Malala reiterating that Malala must be removed from that position.
Sakaja also picked a fight with Riggy G calling him a scared bully and saying he will not be intimidated but Rigathi’s allies led by Senator Methu brought up his fake degree saga to respond to him.
Julius Malema
The South African General Election was held on the 29th and as results started streaming in, Malema’s EFF dropped to 4th in contrast to what the optics looked like. Kenyans on X were quick to draw comparisons of him to Opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The counting is still on and coalition government is looking very likely to be formed between ANC and one of the other parties to meet the 50% threshold.
Trump Convicted
Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts which dealt a big blow to his campaigns for the US election slated for later this year.
He is set to be sentenced in July.
