Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has sent a harsh warning to Azimio La Umoja Leader Raila Odinga on planned mass demonstrations set for Wednesday, July 12.
Speaking at a security briefing in Igoji Sub-County Meru County, the CS declared that there will be heavy security to protect the properties of Kenyans and that those who break the law will be dealt with accordingly.
“The Government will triumph in the war against terrorism and violent extremism. Anyone threatening to make the country ungovernable through mayhem, looting, chaos, and bloodshed will be dealt with firmly and decisively,” CS Kindiki stated.
The CS added that freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate should not be an excuse to cause havoc and destruction of property.
“Freedom of association and the right to demonstrate/picket do not include the right to cause mayhem and loot property,” he expressed.
This comes a few hours after the Azimio La Umoja Leader Raila Odinga toured Nairobi CBD for a meet and greet with his supporters.
Using Matatu as his means of transport to the CBD, Odinga had a chance to interact with fellow passengers who expressed their grievances, especially regarding the high cost of living.
“It was painful to hear in detail about the hardship our people face daily due to the inept and illegitimate regime's actions,” Odinga saddened.
Addressing the crowd that had gathered in the CBD, the former prime minister reassured his followers that the scheduled demonstrations would still take place and urged them to attend in large numbers in support of a revolution.
