Dreaded city thug wanted for a string of thefts in Nairobi's Eastlands area was shot dead by police Friday night in Mathare's Mlango Kubwa neighbourhood, in a bloody gunfight with police.
The criminal known simply as Vinnie was doomed to a horrible end when he walked into a trap set by the sleuths and fell for it. As he came face to face with the detectives stationed at DCI Starehe, Vinnie, as popularly known by his companions in crime, had no space for escape.
According to the sleuths who carried out the sting operation,Vinnie was ordered to stop, but he disobeyed the order, went for his gun, and started firing indiscriminately while trying to flee.
Fortunately, his rounds missed the police who had taken cover in a drainage ditch, the section commander was nevertheless inspired to respond with lethal accuracy.
In the middle of the night, a hail of piercing bullets reverberated throughout the Mathare valley, scorching the thug's soul for judgment.
Vinnie has been on the radar of the DCI for a few months after he brutally stole a motorbike from a bodaboda rider which was his only way to fend for his family.
Additionally, he was a member of a newly formed gang that committed a number of armed robberies in the Pangani, Mathare, Eastleigh, and Huruma regions.
A retay falcon pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm calibre and five spent cartridges were recovered following the shootout.
Meanwhile, the thug’s body is lying at City mortuary awaiting identification and collection.
