Kirinyaga gubernatorial independent candidate Wangui Ngirici has responded to the current Governor Anne Waiguru’s allegations about vote rigging in the ongoing tallying of Kirinyaga Governor votes.
”The only back door that we know was at NYS during your tenure. TUPO SITE!” Ngirici said in a statement on her Facebook page on Wednesday night.
Earlier, Waiguru took to her social media handles two allege that two ballot boxes had been brought into the Kirinyaga Tallying center during the counting process.
“Two ballot boxes containing gubernatorial votes enter Kirinyaga through the back door in broad daylight! They MUST be removed and tallying must be stopped,” the governor wrote.
Two hours later, Waiguru also accused Ngirici of sending thugs to disrupt the counting of votes at Kirinyaga Tallying center, an area she considers her stronghold.
“Ngirici goons now surrounding Kirinyaga Tallying centre in a bid to intimidate and disrupt voter tallying for Gichugu our stronghold.” She said.
“No one can go in or out. And the police are doing nothing to remove them. This will not change the will of the people! Results of 1/5 – Ngariama Ward – Waiguru 7,995; Ngirici 1,575.” Waiguru added.
Ngirici on Tuesday said he has confidence in the voting exercise.
Speaking at the Kaitheri Polytechnic polling station in Kerugoya shortly after voting, the outgoing woman representative urged her supporters to turn out in large numbers to vote and realize change.
She described the exercise as transformative and asked voters to exercise their civic duty wisely.
The tallying of votes is currently underway while the country waits for the official announcement of the winners from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
