Homa Bay governor, Gladys Wanga and former city boss Evans Kidero are eagerly waiting for the High court’s judgment on whether Wanga was elected validly or not.

The election results were challenged by Kidero who believes he won.

Depending on the conclusion of the court, any team has the option of appealing the ruling to the Kisumu Court of Appeal.

The decision will be rendered six months after the petition was submitted.

Ms Wanga has been in government for 193 days and has asserted that she was elected honestly after a spirited campaign.

She also plans to serve the county for ten years, with the goal of making Homa Bay a leader in growth and investment possibilities.

Dr. Kidero feels his victory was stolen and that election results were tampered with.

Judge Roselyne Aburili, who was assigned by Chief Justice Martha Koome to hear and decide the case, had stated that she will render her decision virtually on March 7.

Ms Wanga was declared the winner of the August 9 election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) with 244,559 votes.

Dr Kidero was second with 154,182 votes.

The electoral procedure, according to Dr. Kidero, was not fair to all candidates.

The ex-governor alleged in his appeal that the election was characterized by huge irregularities, voter bribery, result swapping, voter suppression, and voter manipulation, all of which harmed the election's integrity.

This, he claimed, was made possible by his competitor's purported sponsorship of violence.

Ms Wanga, on the other hand, dismissed these charges, claiming that the petitioner's case could not be proven.

Mr Charles Kanjama, Mr Fredrick Orego, Mr Jackson Awele, and Mr Andrew Muma are among her counsel.

Senior Counsel Julie Soweto, Mr Samuel Aduda, Mr Okweh Achiando, and Mr Kevin Oriri lead Dr. Kidero's legal team.
