Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko now believes he stands a fair chance of being heard at the East African Court of Justice just a day after the court named a five-judge bench to hear his appeal.
Sonko appealed the Supreme Court ruling which upheld the decision of the High Court and the Senate on his impeachment.
The one-term Governor claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta paid Senators 4M to support his impeachment on the floor of the house.
“Some senators came out and clearly stated that they were given 4 million each by the President to vote against me,” he said.
On the tribunal’s recommendation of the removal of Justice Said Chitembwe from office, Sonko insists that he has been vindicated while lauding the decision of the tribunal appointed by Uhuru Kenyatta.
Chitembwe was found to have been involved in corruption, garnering millions of money in dubious land dealings in exchange for favourable rulings.
The hearing of the appeal at the Arusha-based Court is set for March 27, with Sonko confident that he will get justice.
He cast doubts at the Supreme Court ruling which he says was hurriedly pre-determined, citing that they were not given directions to file their submissions.
Sonko also questioned why the case which included fourteen lawyers was heard and the ruling given within 24 hours.
