The differences between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto regarding the politics of succession continued to be witnessed on Sunday, August 31, 2022.

This is after President Kenyatta denied planning to kill Dr. Ruto and his close associates, as claimed by Dr. Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua the other day.

Speaking while presiding over the official opening ceremony of the Nairobi Expressway, President Kenyatta explained that for the past three years, Dr. Ruto and his people have been insulting him while he remained silent.

He said that the right time for him to take “any action” was then, and not now when he is completing his second and last term in office.

“That is not my agenda at this time,” President Kenyatta said.

“There is no need for you to tell people that I want to kill you. You have insulted me for the last three years and no one has touched you. Haven’t I been in government for three years and had all the power?” President Kenyatta asked.

“Now that I am about to hand over the reins of leadership to someone else, why do you feel that I am after you?” he asked again.

President Kenyatta emphasized that there is no need for Dr. Ruto and his colleagues to insult him because what he has been doing is warning Kenyans against accepting to lie to them in public.

“Don’t keep lying to people and when I respond don’t tell people that I want to kill you. just sell your agenda and other lies and leave me alone. I will continue my work until I finish it. Seek votes from the people, if they choose you right, if they fail to choose you then we will go home together,” President Kenyatta explained.

Speaking in a series of campaigns in Kapsabet, Nandi County, and nearby areas, Dr. Ruto said he is not afraid to fight President Kenyatta and his “project”, Raila Odinga on the ballot come August 9.

“As long as you don’t kill my children, I am ready to face you in this election with your project, that old man of riddles,” Dr. Ruto said in Kapsabet.

“Mr. President, you have become a source of threats in Kenya. Stop scaring Kenyans. Your job is to ensure that all Kenyans are safe. But tell us that we will know you are the President,” the Deputy President shouted while looking angry.

Dr Ruto said that threats against him will not stop him from continuing his efforts to seek presidential votes.
