Uganda’s High Commissioner to Kenya and Seychelles Dr.hassan Wasswa Galiwango died in Nairobi at the Nairobi hospital on Monday morning.
This has been announced by Uganda’s first deputy prime minister and the minister of the East African Community Rebecca Kadaga.
In a tweet on 16th January 2023, Kadaga announced “I have received the sad news of the death of HE. Dr Hassan Galiwango, our ambassador to the republic of Kenya. On behalf of @ gov Uganda, I send our deepest condolences to his family, the NRM party and the ministry of foreign affairs. May Allah grant him eternal rest.’’
Dr. Hassan Galiwango has been high commissioner of Uganda to Kenya since October 2022 as a replacement to Phibby Otaala, but in an unexpected move, phibby who had left office to contest for a political seat back in Uganda declined to hand over the position claiming she had not been recalled by her government.
In March 2021 Dr Hassan Galiwango presented his credentials to former president Uhuru Kenyatta.
Prior to his appointment as high commissioner, Galiwango served in various positions including being the long-serving director of finance and administration at the ruling party National Resistance Movement (NRM) secretariat before he was replaced by the party’s chairperson of Koboko district Medina Naham.Dr Galiwango was the husband to Mbale city member of parliament Connie Nakayeze Galiwango. His cause of death has not yet been established
