On December 29, two persons were charged after a 3-year-old baby was given alcohol during a Christmas party in Nairobi County. The case was heard in Kiambu Court.
The two suspects, Abdulmajid Hassan Arafat, 19, and Edward Ndirangu Muhuka, 22, gained notoriety after former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko uploaded a video of them providing alcohol to a young child.
In the early hours of December 29, following an undercover operation, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Child Protection Unit would later make the suspects' arrests.
“The two were picked from their slumber in Thindigua and Pangani estates respectively,” said DCI in a statement.
The two had gatecrashed a party where a mutual friend had been invited, according to DCI. The mother of the infant, who had gone to bed early after caring for her guests, was startled when she was awakened at two in the morning by worried friends who had shown her the viral clip.
The matter is scheduled to be discussed on January 18, 2023. Ndirangu admitted to violating section 24(1) of the Children Act No. 29 of 2022 by failing to protect a kid from drugs and substances.
However, Abdulmajid entered a not guilty plea and was granted a Sh 200,000 bond along with a Sh 200,000 guarantee.
