Thiago Silva Set To Leave Chelsea at the End of the Season

39-year-old Brazilian defender Thiago Silva yesterday announced that he will leave Chelsea at the end of the season. In an emotional video, Silva said that it was time to close his Chelsea chapter.

Thiago Silva is set to end his four-year stay at the club which was supposed to be a one-year stay at the club but he ended up extending his contract twice.

Thiago signed for Chelsea at the beginning of the 2020/2021 season from PSG. He established himself as a starter for the club and became a reliable player for Lampard, Tuchel, Potter and Mauricio Pochettino.

Silva went on to help Chelsea lift the champions League in 2021 which he had not won in his entire career. He was a losing finalist with PSG in 2020 but he got the only trophy missing in his cabinet under Thomas Tuchel.

In addition to the Champions League trophy, he also lifted the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup in which he was Player of the Tournament.

Silva was unlucky to lift a domestic trophy with Chelsea having come close in several occasions including losing the Carabao Cup final twice against Liverpool in 2022 and 2024 and the FA Cup final once against Liverpool in  2022.

Silva hopes to return to Chelsea in the future albeit in another role and he also hopes that his sons continue their careers at Chelsea.
