Former heavyweight boxing champion Conjestina Achieng seems to be doing well eight months after being in a Mombasa rehabilitation facility.
Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko came to her rescue in July 2022 after photos and videos of the renowned boxer in bad shape went viral on social media, causing uproar among Kenyans.
The former heavyweight champion has been suffering from mental illness since 2011 when she was diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder,
Before Sonko's intervention, the former World Boxing council, WBC, middleweight Champion was in a bad state in her rural home in Yala, Siaya County.
Conjestina became the first African woman to clinch an international award after defeating Ugandan Fiona Tugume in the Middleweight title.
She was last seen in the ring in February 2010, when she won against Angela Mckenzie. She is set to complete her gym session where she will be training young boxers.
