The National Olympics Committee of Kenya Beach Games set for Malindi

The games involved include beach tennis, beach volleyball, beach football and beach boxing where over 250 players are expected to participate, and moreover, NOC-K has unveiled an 8-member athlete commission.

 

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya beach games is scheduled on the 18th and 19th of March 2023 in Malindi, Kilifi county. Francis Mutuku, the secretary general of NOC-K has partnered with Kilifi County to host this competition.

 

The general secretary was joined by Florah Chibule, Kilifi’s Deputy Governor, Dama Masha, the County Executive Committee member, Naftal Owino, the Chief Officer for sports in Kilifi and the National and County government officials, in inspecting the Buthwani Malindi beach park in preparation for the competition.

 

The event will involve beach tennis, beach volleyball, beach football and beach boxing, hosting more than 250 players that are expected to participate. Humphrey Khayange, the former Rugby Union player and current chairman of the NOCK has also unveiled an eight-member athlete commission.

 

Other champions who are also part of the group include, Mercy Moims stellar who is currently the Malkia striker captain, Hockey star Gilly Okumu and the two-time Olympic 5000m silver medalist Hellen Obiri.

 

The Malindi beach games will identify the best players who will represent the country in both the Africa and World beach games scheduled to happen this year in June in Tunisia and Indonesia respectively.

 

The Kenya beach game is one of the latest versions of sports celebrations across the country. Mr Mutuku added that it will be held across all the regions of Kenya in a rotational manner.

 

Ms Dama Masha, the CEC SPORTS & youth Kilifi said this event will promote sports tourism in the county and also nurture local talent. Chibule also made a comment on the event saying the county will invest in sports to empower the youth economically.
