The press conference to disown the Presidential results that were declared by IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati back on August 15, 2022, was replayed during the led tribunal by Justice Aggrey Muchelul. The press conference took place at the Serena hotel in Nairobi.

The General Manager of Serena Hotel Anthony Chege confirmed that the senior IEBC officials only used their premises for a press conference, and were charged Sh60,000 for the service. Edwin Okwe, a man believed to have booked rooms and the facilities for the commissioners is said to have made bookings for three apartments.

“We charge Sh30,000 for a press conference at the hotel gardens. The requests for the press conferences on the 15th and 16th of August 2022 were made at the reception. The payments were settled at the reception” said Chege

The tribunal which also summoned the General manager of Yaya accommodations Simon Miller confirmed that the person who made the bookings at their apartment was Mr. Edwin Okwe. Okwe made bookings for three guests and Masit was one of the guests in the booked apartments. The four commissioners checked in on the 15th and left on the 19th of August. They stayed in apartments 21, 23, and 27.

The four said that they had decided to spend their nights away from their home because their lives were in danger. Commissioner Irene Masit is the only one yet to resign among the four accused IEBC officials. The four suspended IEBC commissioners are accused of teaming up with senior members of the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition team to reverse the will of the Kenyan people in regard to the August 9, 2022, presidential election. The four commissioners were asking for the moderation of the results because the margin was so small. This issue brought division in the commission and the four IEBC commissioners walked away. The hearing is adjourned to the 4th of January.
