Residents of Tetu sub-county, Nyeri county reeled in shock after a decomposing body of a high school teacher was found in a homemade coffin at his rented house at Ihururu shopping center.
Police officers from a local station were called in to retrieve the lifeless body of 46-year-old Joseph Gathogo who worked at Muhoya Secondary School.
Confirming the incident, area police boss Phillip Mwania said that the deceased mysteriously disappeared for the past few days before he was found at his rented house.
"The relatives visited his house accompanied by police. Upon arrival at his house, they were met with a foul smell emanating behind the closed door. When they broke the door they were astonished that their kin was dead inside his homemade coffin," Mwania said.

In a video seen by Look Up TV Digital, his relatives confirmed that prior to his death, he had his own issue but they never thought he would take his own life.
Tetu Sub-county residents who milled the area, believe that the deceased committed suicide by placing himself inside the coffin.
Police have launched investigations to determine the exact cause of the death of the teacher.
His body was moved to Nyeri County Referral morgue.
