On December 28, a Sugoi musician who had been accused of using the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's persona to extort money from Kenyans entered a plea of guilty before Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu of the Milimani Law Courts.

The musician apologized to the second in command for creating a Facebook page in his name and distributing his images to deceive gullible Kenyans while acknowledging his wrongdoings.

The 22-year-old then asked Gachagua to assist him in finding employment. Before Milimani Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Esther Kimilu, he defended his views by stating that job prospects would help him in his information technology profession.

"Your honour, I created the fake Facebook book account in the name of His Excellency Hon Rigathi Gachagua to look for views and likes for my songs whose links are available for viewing," he pleaded.  Arguing his case, the Sugoi-based upcoming artist told the court that financial constraints forced him to drop out of college.

The 22-year-old continued by saying that his family was unable to assist him in finding funding for his college studies. After considering the situation, magistrate Kimilu fined him Ksh50,000 or sentenced him to seven months in jail for impersonating another person in violation of section 382(I) of the Penal Code.

The magistrate advised the singer against posing as other government employees while delivering the verdict and treating him as a first-time offender. Detectives used a concert to deceive the artist into giving up his whereabouts in Uasin Gishu. The detectives located his phone in a neighborhood bar with pool tables, where they persuaded him with an attractive performance opportunity.

He fell victim to the ruse and was arrested in Nairobi and questioned for setting up a false Facebook page to raise money from gullible Kenyans. In a statement following his capture, DCI said that the benga artist, who is based in Kamplemur Village, Sugoi, "was arrested after he created a fake Facebook account bearing the Deputy President's name and obtained money from unsuspecting citizens, allegedly intended for feeding Kenyans struggling with hunger."
