Paul Mackenzie is not a new name, the controversial pastor hit the headlines after it became known that the cleric had instructed his Good News International church members to fast in order to meet with God.
An air hostess by the name of Betty was lured into the church and it is believed that she quit her job, sold her land worth 7 Million, and donated it to the Good News International church which Paul Mackenzie leads.
The story began when the air hostess was working in Qatar, her son Jason was forced to fast, and he eventually passed away. At the time, he was residing with his grandparents.
She is thought to have traveled for the burial after hearing the news while at work in Qatar. She deleted all of her social media posts, sold all of her possessions, and then booked a one-way journey to Malindi, which was concerning development.
Her Nairobi-based sister, who was living in Umoja, wrote her husband a heartfelt letter warning him that Betty might never return.
According to her husband, she penned a letter and then departed with the kids for Malindi. He then learned through a friend that the wife and the kids were going to meet Jesus in Malindi’s Shakahola area where Paul Mackenzie resided.
"I followed her flight, which was just a one-way ticket to Malindi," the friend confirmed.
“Hallo Abas, I’m so sorry to have left, but may be this was our destiny. Thanks for everything you have done for us to this time while we were still together. Take care of yourself, I hope we meet again someday. I’m really emotional writing this but know I loved you with every bit of me. It is really hard for me, but I have to go…” the letter read in part.
Betty's parents reportedly became members of the religion some time ago and rose to become church elders. Some of Betty's siblings, including her son Jason, have adhered to the concept and have chosen to forgo their education in order to follow the doctrine.
Jason's life would be taken from him for fasting, Currently, the mother is missing, and the body of Jason is in the mortuary in Malindi.
