STALLED COUNTY PROJECTS

Reports by the auditor general, Nancy Gathungu state that projects in various counties have stalled and left incomplete.

The projects include the construction of Early Childhood Education Centres (ECDE) classes, hospitals, roads and stadiums. The projects stalled due to non-payment, and court injunctions due to procurement irregularities.

This was worsened by delayed release of funds to counties, under-collection of own-source revenue, as well as procurement for projects without a budget.

Affected counties are Nairobi, Kiambu, Baringo, Nakuru, Turkana, West Pokot, Tana River, Kitui, Nyamira and Trans Nzoia.

OBADO’S CASE POSTPONED

Former Migori governor Okoth Obado's murder case involving university student Sharon Otieno was postponed to Monday, May 6.

The hearing was scheduled before Justice Cecilia Githua but could not proceed after the court was informed that one of the accused victims was bereaved.

Advocate Elisha Ongoya and Meso Ogada told the trial judge that Obiero, one of the accused, was unable to appear in court for proceedings as he had lost a family member and requested the court and the prosecution to indulge him as he worked on giving his family a befitting send-off.

This was later adjourned as Justice Githua pushed the  hearing to resume on  May 6

NAIVASHA LAND DISPUTE

Police lobbed tear gas at protesters who had converged together on the disputed Ndabibi land in Naivasha. Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Jimmy Wanjigi were among those caught up in the incident that saw police arrest local residents.

The ownership of the land deepened when the member of parliament Jayne Kihara, a member of the National Assembly’s Land Committee, stated that the land was sold to President William Ruto by Benjamin Kipkulei.

Jimmy Wanjigi  added that Kipkulei’s   claim to the land  was revoked by the court, asserting that he did not own it due to a lack of original documents for the land and that it formerly belonged to the Agricultural Development Corporation

OGOLA’S MEMORIAL SERVICE POSTPONED

Late Chief of Defence Forces General Ogolla’s memorial service has been postponed. The service had been scheduled for Friday, April 26 2024, at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Langata.

In a joint statement with the KDF, the late General’s family stated that the new date would be communicated in the coming days.

General Ogolla was laid to rest at his home in Ng’iya, Siaya County on Sunday; without a coffin; only in a piece of cloth covering his body, per his wish.

The military head died on Thursday afternoon in a chopper crash alongside nine army personnel while on official duty in Sindar, Elgeyo Marakwet County. The general was accorded a 19-gun salute similar to the late presidents.
