Sports PS Jonathan Mueke says the government was compelled by FIFA to bring back the suspended Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials as a condition for lifting an indefinite suspension by the international football body.
The committee chaired by Webuye MP Dan Wanyama noticed that there exists a crisis in sports with FKF and County Football Association officials heading in separate directions.
"FIFA came here and told us it was not in order to disband an entire federation if the government had an issue with one person and advised us to have that person step aside and reinstate the remaining officials as a condition for readmission to international football," Said Jonathan.
FIFA unconditionally lifted a 16 months ban on November 2022 after Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba reinstated FKF officials.
Nick Mwendwa, the Federation president, stepped aside but assumed office after he was cleared of economic crimes.
The ban was slapped on Kenya after former Sports CS Amina Mohamed disbanded FKF after an inspection report that showed abuse of office and corruption in the sports body dealing.
Meanwhile, Wanyama has directed the Ministry of Sports to organize a meeting consisting of his committee, FKF and CFA officials in order to address the disputes.
