National men’s sevens team player, Jeff Oluoch is set to make his debut in the World Rugby seven series, after being named in the Shujaa’s travelling squad for the Hong Kong and Singapore legs that are scheduled for late march and early April.
Johnstone Olindi has also returned to the squad after a break since the Dubai and Cape town rounds of this season's series. The 28-year-old, Oluoch, recently started his profession as a police officer after passing out from the administration police training college.
“It feels good to be back with the team. There are massive expectations from everyone but we know the boys won’t let you down.’said the HomeBoys forward Jeff Oluoch.
The Shujaa squad together with New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa are in Pool D in Hong Kong. The Shujaa squad that are to travel to Hong Kong and Singapore include: Daniel Taabu, George Ooro, Billy Odhiambo, Kevin Wekesa, Tony Omondi, Herman Humwa, Nelson Oyoo (Captain), Johnstone Olindi, Edmund Anya, Brian Tanga, John Okoth, Alvin Otieno, Jeff Oluoch.
Brunson Madigu, Dennis Abukuse who were part of the North America tour will miss out on this trip. The squad is to face New Zealand at 9:40 am as they prepare for the Saturday match against Ireland and South Africa at 6:28 am and 10:25 am respectively.
Shujaas need to work to achieve as many points a s possible in the next two tournaments to keep their status intact for the next season.
Currently the squad are in a relegation dogfight on 29 points where only the top two teams will qualify for the main cup quarter finals.
