Samburu West MP Naisula Lesuuda got emotional and broke down on Tuesday 10, 2022 during the vetting of Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki at the National Assembly. While addressing Kindiki over the ongoing insecurity issues in the Samburu region, the second-term Member of Parliament was overcome by emotion. MP Naisula denounced floppiness by the government to deal firmly and strictly with the menace facing Samburu. Insecurity in Samburu has recently left eight police officers dead.

“I constantly get the feeling that office holders responsible for matters of security don’t really, and are not willing to, comprehend the pain and loss caused by insecurity in the North. Cattle rustling is seen as a tradition and the people’s backward culture. Kindly let me put this into context, and I pray for God’s strength as I do this. This morning, they attacked again and as we speak they have killed one person, two are missing, one of whom is my staff, and they have stolen goods,” Lesuuda said during the vetting.

Pokot South MP David Pkosing bolstered Lesuuda on the need for decisive action by government security agencies. Prof Kindiki on the other hand affirmed that the Kenya Kwanza administration led by President William Ruto is dedicated to calming the criminal-prone region through programs that will bring an end to cattle rustling in the region.

Kindiki appeared before the fifteen-member committee to be interrogated for the post he was nominated for. It was then that MP Lesuuda questioned his plan on how he was going to curb insecurity in the troubled Northern Kenya region.

“I want to assure Kenyans that I will make whatever sacrifices that would require to be made and I will remain focused until this problem is over even if it means coming to live in the North Rift,” Kindiki said while in the National Assembly Appointment Committee.
