Sarah Moraa and Alex Ng’eno Win Gold for Kenya at Africa Athletics Championships

Kenyan Youngsters Sarah Moraa and Alex Ng’eno secured Kenya’s first gold medals at the Africa Athletics Senior Championships in Douala, Cameroon, with wins in the men’s and women’s 800m events.

Moraa led a Kenyan 1-2 finish in the women’s race, clocking 2:00.27, while national champion Lilian Odira took silver with a time of 2:00.36. Moroccan Soukaina Hajji earned bronze, finishing in 2:00.91. Ng’eno delivered a bold gun-to-tape performance to win the men’s 800m race in 1:45.02.

Botswana’s Kethobogile Hanguira took silver with a time of 1:45.54, while Ugandan Tom Dradriga finished third in 1:46.01.

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Kenya secured silver and bronze as Ugandan Leonard Chemutai claimed gold with a time of 8:21.30.

Africa Under 20 champion Edmond Serem clocked 8:21.94 to take silver, and his compatriot Matthew Kosgei finished in 8:21.98 to earn bronze.

Additionally, on Day Three of the championships, Kenyan Boniface Mweresa placed fourth in the men’s 400m final with a time of 45.62.
