Salah becomes the first player in the Champions League to score a treble in under six minutes

Liverpool’s winger Mohammed Salah scored the fastest ever Champions League hat-trick on Wednesday October 12, 2022. It took the winger just six minutes and twelve seconds to net the quickest treble in Champions League history. Mohamed Salah had been left out of the starting line-up. He came in during the second half and single handedly took the score line from 3-1 to 6-1. This was Rangers’ heaviest defeat in a competitive match at Ibrox. The three goals that Salah scored were assisted by the same player, Diogo Jota. This was the first incident that has ever happened since 2012.

“It’s completely different. We usually drink a beer after away games but it’s that long ago I drank a beer, I’ll probably be drunk after one. Yes, it changed the mood completely but we all know who we are welcoming on Sunday and this will be a different game, but it’s better to go into it with this feeling we’ve got tonight than any other.” Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said.

Earlier, Roberto Firmino had continued his own fine form. He scored twice to give Liverpool the lead after Scott Arfield fired Rangers in front. Firmino also set up Darwin Nunez to bag his first-ever Champions League goal since joining Liverpool. However, Harvey Elliott rounded off the match with a right-footed effort later on before Salah scored the treble. This was Rangers’ heaviest home defeat and confirmed them at the bottom of the table exiting from the competition.

Jurgen Klopp will be hoping this is just the start, with Liverpool’s great rivals coming into view this Sunday. Manchester City will be hosted by Liverpool at Anfield this coming Sunday. Only Erling Haaland of Manchester City has more goal involvement for a Premier League club in all competitions this season than Firmino, who has eight goals and four assists to his name.
