Safaricom Issues Kshs. 10m Sponsorship to this Years’ Lewa Safari Marathon
Lewa Safari Marathon is one of the most astounding marathons, renowned for it for its challenging yet captivating terrain and incredible wildlife experiences across the globe.
It is also straw polled as one of the top races in the world to be run by any runner. The main aim of the race is to make a change and make a positive impact on wildlife and the communities around Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and beyond.
The 2023 participants are encouraged to “ditch the desk’ and connect with nature. However, the race has hosted athletes of all attributes for almost two and half decades, from professional runners such as Eliud Kipchoge to amateur runners.
The marathon is sponsored by huge telecommunication company Safaricom and telecommunication manufacturing company Huawei.
Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa has assured their 24th years’ support to Lewa Marathon. However, Safaricom issued Kshs.10 million to support the event.
“We are happy to be part of this event as we engage in running to create awareness and we take part in conserving our wildlife. We have partnered with the Lewa Safaricom Marathon since its start in 2000. And we are excited today to increase our sponsorship with Kshs. 10 million. The race means a lot to Safaricom PLC, as we aim to promote and develop talents in sports and at the same time we conserve our wild animals and the environment”. Says Safaricom CEO, Peter Ndegwa.
Deputy CEO of Huawei company, Sheng Shaifu has announced their continuous support for the event. Huawei has been supporting the Lewa Safari Marathon for the last sixteen years.
“Lewa Conservancy is home to rare wildlife and I am sure through our support and that of Safaricom, we will fulfil the aim of the race more so conserving the wildlife and the environment”. says Kaifu.
The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy CEO Mike Watson, has welcomed everyone to participate in the race as it is an opportunity to make a difference on planet earth which is facing unprecedented threats.

Since its launch in 2000, Lewa Safari Marathon has raised over 8 million US dollars to support conservation and the community around the country. Approximately 4 million US dollars have been invested in the direct protection of endangered species, other wildlife and their habitats.
