127 people have died due to the flood and landslides in Rwanda after heavy rains pounded most regions.

Western Province governor Francios Habitegeko confirmed the incident on Wednesday: "It rained heavily all night, causing immense suffering in the districts of Ngororero, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Rutsiro, and Karongi.

The soil was already soaked from the previous days of rain, which caused landslides that closed roads.”

Rwanda President Paul Kagame said, "Rescue interventions are ongoing in the most affected districts... in order to secure endangered citizens."

The President also sent his condolences to the affected families and victims of the families, "My deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims of the landslides and floods that occurred last night in the Western, Northern and Southern provinces."

The state-run Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) said that most of the deaths occurred in Western Province. According to the weather forecast, more rainfall is expected on Thursday.
