KCB RFC has continued with their good run by beating Menengai oilers from Nakuru-based 62-15 points in a Kenya cup duel at the Nakuru showground.

The Bankers have extended their plans to qualify for the knockout stages as well as winning the medal for the champions for the 2022/23 Kenya cup season to nine wins out of nine games played and the victory against the oilers has earned them a bonus point.

The home side earned three points after a penalty off Geoffrey Ominde’s boot, but scrum-half Samuel Asati scored an excellent try to make it 7-3 points.

Mukidza added another try for KCB before Asati got his brace and a penalty before the break, which gave the bankers a comfortable 24-3 points lead at the interval.

KCB RFC coach Curtis Olago termed the win as revenge against their opponent after they lost against them in the semi-finals last season. However, they had intense training sessions during the week before the game.

“This was a revenge match for us against this side considering they beat us 24-19 during the semi-finals last season. We knew what we wanted to do here today, and a win was the only foreseeable result following rigorous training during the week. “says Olago.

Festus Shihasi who made his debut for the first team showed a top class game in the second half, Shihasi got a brace before Elphas Adunga, Brian Wahinya, and former Shujaa captain Andrew Amonde secured the banker’s win to 62-10 points before the final whistle.

Geoffrey Ominde pulled one try for Nakuru-based home team to make it 62-15 points leaving the home fans in a joyous mood following his impressive move.

In the current table standing KCB RFC is at the top with 44 points only a point ahead of the defending champions Kabras Sugar. Menengai oilers on the other had settled in the third position with 31 points.

KCB RFC will be back in action at the den on February 18th, 2023 against defending champions Kabras Sugar, while Menengai Oilers will face Catholic Monks.
