This weekend marks a historic milestone for the illustrious Ruiru Sports Club, as it proudly commemorates 100 years of existence. Renowned as one of the nation's most frequented clubs, the centennial celebrations are set to unfold with a series of engaging activities, leading up to the eagerly awaited Saturday evening gala.

To kick off the festivities, the club is hosting a Centenary Club Night on Thursday, followed by Friday's Greensomes Tournament. The pinnacle of the weekend will be the Centenary Golf Day at the esteemed 18-hole course on Saturday, culminating in a grand gala dinner, expected to be graced by 1000 invited guests.

Expressing his excitement ahead of the momentous occasion, Club Chairman Dominic Chege reflected on a century marked by learning, progress, and growth. He urged golf enthusiasts from Nairobi and its environs to participate, promising a weekend filled with fun.

The Blue and White-themed gala dinner, attended by club members, sponsors, partners, and distinguished guests, concludes a three-month-long celebration series. This comprehensive series included an Expo Golf Day, swimming competition, bowling, juniors' chess competition, Centenary Junior Tournament, and a charity golf tournament, culminating in a tree-planting exercise to contribute to environmental conservation.

Currently boasting 2433 members, the Thika-Highway-based facility has become a hub for various corporate golf events, hosting prestigious tournaments such as the Legendary Golf Tournament, Old Mutual Tournament, and KCB-sponsored events.

The Par 72 golf course holds a rich history steeped in tradition, featuring a colorful cast of players who left an indelible mark, particularly during the colonial era. Originally established as a tennis club a few miles north of its present site, the decision to relocate to a more spacious ground was pivotal for its growth.

In 2007, the club achieved another milestone by appointing its first African Chairman, Steve Mwagiru, succeeded by Prof. Muigai Gachanja, who served three terms before passing the baton to William [Last Name]. As the weekend unfolds, Ruiru Sports Club stands as a testament to a century of excellence, camaraderie, and a vibrant sporting legacy.
