On January 10, a 90-year-old man was brutally murdered and his money stolen in Kibwezi, Makueni county. Police have opened an inquiry into the matter.
Shortly after leaving a bank in the Metava district, where he had gone to withdraw the money obtained through the government's Inua Jamii cash transfer program, the nonagenarian was confronted by unidentified intruders.
Area chief Nicolas Mwonga said that before fleeing with the money, the deceased had withdrawn the attackers slashed his throat.
The body was transported to Kambu Hospital's mortuary as authorities pursue their inquiries into the incident.

The goal of Inua Jamii cash transfer program is to support the most vulnerable members of the community by giving them a stipend to protect them from hunger and poverty.
The initiative specifically targets elderly people, children in need, orphans, fragile youngsters, and people with severe disabilities.
Beneficiaries can get Ksh2,000 every month and Ksh4,000 every two months.
