The unidentified criminal had set up an ambush for a man who had just left his apartment at Githurai 44 and was on his way home for the night. The bandit jumped from a row of dark Vibandaski opposite the gate, leveling his weapon at the unlucky victim's jugular as he alighted to unlock the gate.
The thug was seen on camera by the apartment's CCTV as he dashed after the man and demanded that he empty all of his pockets while pointing a gun at him.
A getaway motorcycle skidded to a halt one yard from the crime scene, and the criminal leapt on it as it drove away in what seemed to be a well-thought-out strategy.
They were unaware that detectives from Kasarani who were on patrol had parked their vehicle next to a dark wall on a bend one kilometre distant. The Subaru was instantly started and proceeded towards the direction of the loud, male terror shouts when they heard the distress call followed by police communication from control.
They came upon a motorbike travelling in the direction of Mokoe Road that abruptly took a U-turn after noticing the renowned hatchback. The armed thug abruptly jumped off and began running on foot toward a pathway while firing at the policemen.
With no other choice, one of the criminal fighters opened fire and silenced him, effectively ending the chase. The thug's accomplice, who was on the speeding bike, escaped by a hair's breadth.
Following the chase, one Czeska handgun loaded with four 9mm rounds was discovered.
Meanwhile, the thug's body is at the City morgue awaiting identification.
