Azimio La Umoja has suspended the bipartisan talks after failing to reach a consensus on different issues that the bipartisan group entrusted with resolving.
Addressing the press on 23 May 2023 through its chair Otiende Amollo the team blamed their counterparts for their unwillingness to conceal on any of the four issues that were raised by the Raila Odinga’s led movement.
“We identified four issues including the cost of living, audit of results of the presidential election, and the reconstitution of IEBC, Our colleagues have refused to conceal on any of the four issues.” Said Otiende Amollo.
The Azimio la Umoja side further blamed the Kenya Kwanza for not negotiating in good faith and that they had spoken to their leader to stop maandamano.
“Our colleagues are not negotiating in good faith and refusal to conceal to our issues means we have reached irreconcilable differences and Azimio has suspended negotiations for seven days.” The Otiende Amollo-led team noted.
The Kenya Kwanza team through George Gitonga noted that the issue of IEBC took precedence and they did not agree that there was a stalemate.
“We informed you that the most urgent issue was IEBC. When we came, unfortunately from the other side the issue of interim measures came up and they wanted us to concede to them." Said George Gitonga.
"We have made it clear that the issue of IEBC takes precedence and therefore we have clearly indicated to Azimio that the selection panel is not going on with the work.” the Kenya Kwanza team noted.
