Questions Emerge After Eliud Kipchoge Skips Kelvin Kiptum’s Burial

Hard questions have emerged after Legendary Marathoner Eliud Kipchoge failed to attend the burial of the late Kelvin Kiptum that was held in Elgeyo Marakwet.

This comes weeks after Kenyans online questioned why Eliud Kipchoge failed to congratulate Kelvin Kiptum when he broke his record but instead mourned his demise on social media.

The incident has sparked outrage among social media users, here are some comments

“Very sad if it's true Eliud Kipchoge skipped Kelvin Kiptum's burial.” One User wrote on X

“Eliud Kipchoge is trending because he didn't attend Kelvin Kiptum's burial. The reason is that Eliud has been out of the country for the past three weeks. Why is there such a strong obsession with King Eliud? Was he supposed to cancel all his activities with his sponsors just to attend a one-day burial to please some people?” another user commented

“Eliud Kipchoge is very innocent. With or without attending Kelvin Kiptum's burial nothing changes. He was, is and will continue being the greatest marathoner of all time. Stop the blame games and let's mourn Kiptum in peace.” Another X user said

Earlier this month, Kiptum, 24, died in a car accident in his native Kenya, which also killed his Rwandan coach Gervais Hakizimana. 

The Kenyan distance runner's death came just five days after World Athletics ratified his world record time of 2:00.35, which he set when winning the Chicago Marathon.

Kelvin has been laid to rest in his home in Uasin Gishu county, an event that saw top government officials including President William Ruto attending.
