A new application has been filed requesting court orders to detain controversial preacher Paul Makenzie and his co-suspects for a period of six months.
This extension is sought to allow the authorities to finalize their investigations into the Shakahola massacre.
A statement presented by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), highlighted that pathologists require a minimum of six months to fully complete the DNA profiling process, ensuring the definitive identification of the exhumed bodies.
According to Chief Inspector Raphael Wanjohi, the DNA profiling of 429 bodies recovered from the Shakahola forest is a complex, costly, and time-consuming process.
The court however adjourned the hearing of the application to provide an opportunity for Mackenzie's legal team to file their responses.
Suspected Cult Leader Paul Mackenzie and other suspects will remain in police custody for 30 more days, the court has ruled.
