Property worth millions of shillings burned to ashes after an inferno destroyed businesses and homes in Hellsgate trading centre in Naivasha County.
There were no faculties recorded since residents and bystanders evacuated around 40 children from a nearby orphanage and other residents before the fire spread.
According to witnesses, the fire started in one of the houses before quickly spreading to other properties, hampered by strong winds and a shortage of water. The Victims are now appealing for assistance from the county government saying that they had lost all of their household items and stock in the blaze.
Olkaria MCA Peter Pallanga stated that the bulk of those affected were flower farm labourers and that he would lobby the county administration to assist them.
The Chief Officer for Disaster Management in Nakuru Joyce Cece pledged would ensure that the families received beds and food.
“The county government will make sure that no one sleeps in the cold after the fire incident and we shall support them restart their lives,” she said.
