President William Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is making significant amendments to its party structure and top leadership, as announced during the National Governing Council (NGC) meeting at Bomas of Kenya.

The proposed changes, presented by Vice Chair Omar Hassan, include the inclusion of deputy governors in the County Government Caucus, a move aimed at enhancing their involvement in the party's governance.

In a bid to promote gender balance within the party, UDA has decided that leaders aspiring for the county chairperson position will run without running mates.

Under this new arrangement, the first runners-up of the opposite gender will automatically assume the role of deputy county chairperson.

Furthermore, UDA is expanding its Constituency Committee from 7 to 13 officials.

These committee members will include a chairperson, secretary, treasurer, and representatives from the youth, women, and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWD) segments of society.

Notably, the 7 constituency leaders chosen will also become integral members of the party's top decision-making body, the National Delegates Conference (NDC).

President Ruto emphasized the need for party members aspiring for leadership positions to prepare for upcoming elections, scheduled later this year.

He underscored the importance of conducting primaries in advance to preempt any potential disputes stemming from the polls. Importantly, he assured that no candidate would receive preferential treatment in the party elections, emphasizing that the party's 7.2 million members would have the ultimate say in selecting officials.
